The Shoals Area is known for its rich history in music. Legends such as Aretha Franklin, Rolling Stones, and Percy Sledge have recorded in this city by the lake. Outside of the hundreds of hit songs that have been recorded here, there is another little hidden gem…. GOLF!!!
Grab your golf clubs and come visit the Shoals and you will enjoy award winning golf courses at Robert Trent Jones, Cypress Lakes, and Blackberry Trails. Not to forget one of Golf Digest favorite in Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. Each of these courses offer a challenging yet relaxing day out on the links.
Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals features a two 18 hole courses. The Fighting Joe which is the first course on the trail to break 8,000 yards offers tons a water, white sand, and plush fairways. The Schoolmaster course which is named after President Woodrow Wilson (responsible for getting the Wilson Dam built) offers crisp wood lines with beautiful pines. This Robert Trent Jones facility is unique and is the perfect get away. http://www.rtjgolf.com/theshoals
Cypress Lakes Golf Course is located in the heart of Muscle Shoals. This short but challenging golf course is situated in a subdivision surrounded by beautiful homes and small lakes/ponds. Playing at Cypress Lakes requires accuracy rather than distance. If your hitting the ball straight then this could be your day for a record breaking round. http://www.cypresslakesgolfandtennis.com/Default.asp?ID=341&pg=Golf+Course
Blackberry Trail Golf Course is owned by the City of Florence and is located around a newer residential neighborhood. This 18 hole course is fun and perfect to fit any skill level. Blackberry Trail still offers several challenging holes surrounded by water and bunkers. However, one will still find many holes that are forgiving to amateurs. http://www.fpard.com/Parks/Blackberry_Trail/index.html
Many consider Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club the queen bee of golf in the Shoals Area. TPYCC golf course was designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones, Sr in 1961. This PRIVATE golf course has been featured in many golf magazines and is considered one of the top courses in the State of Alabama. in 2010 Golf Digest rated Turtle Point the #2 course in the state. This beauty is located on main Wilson lake and features large rolling hills, tight fairways, and tons of water. This course has even been host to the SEC Championship. http://www.tpycc.org/
If you are looking for new place to call home or just taking a quick weekend getaway then I would consider a strong look The Shoals. Great Food, Great People, and even better GOLF!!!
